The first law f thermodynamics states that all energy already exists in a closed system and cannot be created or destroyed. Isn't that by definition perpetual energy, if the energy must continueto exist in one form or another? The question is only how we can make it useable.

The position is simply that we do not know or understand all methods of energy transfer, and that it is possible to harvest more energy out of a system than we put in, by leveraging the environment. The part that many miss in thermodynamics is the statement includes a constraint, being "a closed sysytem".

It's actually very difficult to have a "closed system" that is completely excluded of the environment around it.

Likewise, the size of any system we use on earth is potentially huge, as is the amount of energy contained even within the smallest particles of matter.

The trick is simply how to make the potential energy flow from a source to a sink, and while it does so power something useful to do work on the environment to create a change in it.

Go plant a seed or roll a snow ball down a snow covered hill to see a cascading system gain energy from the environment.

Another form of "invisible but available" energy that everyone knows is powerful is lightning. We've been having that a lot around Austin lately. But just imagine that those electromagnetic reactions are occurring at a microscopic level between particles all the time, which you can see when you take a woolly jumper off in the dark, and that a Lightning strike is just a manifestation of a lot of them at once.

Now, let me give you another one to think about (but not try because it can be unsafe): if you take a 110V light circuit, connect just the single live cable to a lightbulb, and then connect the other side of the bulb to ground and flick the switch it will light up. That is because the return path back to the generator is through the ground, not via a cable like most believe. Yet another: an electron that enters a 1ft cable takes a full minute to exit the other end of the cable. Look it up.

Now there's some dispute about the duality of electrons, which is it's ability to be both particle and waveform depending on the medium it passes through. Some might consider this outrageous, but what if particles were just waveforms in the medium of space, and just observable elements of an underlying substrate of energy that supports all observable phenomenon?

It's fun to contemplate these things and not offhandedly dismiss them.

I'm not saying that the ECAT described on this thread works...far from it.

I'm just pointing out that most are not qualified enough to even argue how it works or not, and resort to stating what little they know about why perpetual motion "can not" exist.

After all the easiet form of "free energy" is simply the one you don't have to pay for. ?

As humans, we've never produced an ounce of energy, that we didn't first harvest from the environment, that is predominantly powered by the fusion of the sun.

You just need to let that sink in.

There's lots of power out there. But this isn't that.

Crazy thing about solar power is the rate of production is increasing each year, as does the cost to produce them.

Before long, we are going to have more solar surplus power than we know what to do with and some companies will be able to negotiate free or near free power from the power companies during peak production. This is when carbon capture starts to get really interesting.

People are already figuring out ways to put this excess power to work creating synthetic fuels and other carbon based materials.
