Ram trucks sales surged 33.7% in Q3 2026 vs 2025. Ram 1500 sales totaled 76,650 which was an increase of 73%.

Ram is definitely back on track This is a great sign for the Ram Dakota success in the US / Canada! Having Kuniskis (former head of Ram) as the current head of American brands seems to be answer to reigniting interest in Ram trucks.

Like anything else, for the Dakota the devil will be in the details. If (and with Stellantis, that is a big IF) produces the right product, with the right powertrain, and the right options, they could (and, hopefully, will) have a winner on their hands. I think the sales report is a bit mixed, with the RAM 1500 seemingly carrying the brunt of these sales. The decision to return the HEMI V8 appears to be working and one could argue that the signal it should send across not only RAM, but the entire industry, is that American truck buyers want power and want gas. Preferably V8s.

How will that translate to the Dakota is anyone’s guess, because I think there is less than a 50/50 chance the Dakota will get a V8, at least initially, unless Kuniskis plans to make a splash when it is launched. Rather, I suspect the engines coming are the Hurricane (in some variation), the Pentastar, and perhaps a smaller engine like the 2.0 turbocharged I-4 used in Jeeps (for the fuel economy and fleets). Any type of electric or hybrid is iffy in my opinion, but could come later depending on a variety of financial, political, and regulatory circumstances. However, RAM being RAM, and Kuniskis being Kuniskis, anything is possible because the Dakota will have a lot of catching up to do in the mid-size truck arena and will need a sales draw. The proverbial “what separates the men from the boys” argument.

Keep in mind, these are Q3 stats. That is one quarter. Pretty tough to gauge anything overly significant from that, particularly since Ford and GM both have their own issues.

Nevertheless, along with you, I cheer the numbers and hope that maybe this will get RAM to move even quicker to get the new Dakota out, into the market, and on the street. I am holding off replacing my ‘19 Ford Ranger until I see the new Dakota and keeping my fingers crossed that it is worth the wait.
