RAM CEO Tim Kuniskis all but shot down the idea that RAM would offer a compact pickup in the U.S. anytime soon, noting that the company desperately needs to get the Dakota to market before it considers targeting the Ford Maverick, which he suggested would not be the success it is today if Ford did not deprioritize production of the Ranger in the U.S.

"Kuniskis confirmed that the potential for a Ram compact pickup would depend on how the upcoming Dakota midsizer does. “Right now, I’m in a space where I don’t have a midsize truck, and I desperately need a midsize truck as fast as possible,” Kuniskis said. “So it would be tough to make the investment to bring in a compact truck without knowing what the midsize truck is going to do first. You really got to test that first.”"
