With Elon's recent candid yet obvious admission, what do Tesla Cybertruck reservation holders think about this over worked genius putting too many balls in the air? To add another metaphor to the mix, he seems the victim of a self inflicted wound. As a shareholder, the owner of a Tesla Solar System with Powerwalls, 2 Tesla cars and, a CyberTruck reservation I am concerned that he is intentionally undoing his many great accomplishments with this unnecessary Social Engineering experiment. It seems he lacks feed back from within his small circle of advisors or perhaps he just isn't listening. In any case, I think his customers (current and future) should get their opinions out in the open before he runs the entire enterprise off the rails. Please, no political discussions as that kills any and all relevant discourse.

I have mixed opinions about Elon.

The guy is good at getting the ball rolling and following-through on the bets no one else wants to make. He has a remarkable track record of doing the impossible - mostly by inspiring others to grind out the stuff no one else wants to grind out.

His "superpower" as it were is the ability to cut down to the basics of a problem and solve it originally, without the dogma of "the way things are always done." It's worked, very well. But it doesn't work for everything, and this is where he's found himself.

Human communication isn't something that can be stripped down to bare first principles and built back up. It's organic, its flowy, and it is often counter-intuitive. Twitter as a platform can be approached with his usual bag of tricks, but the way its used can't. And unlike PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink - how people use it is the product itself.

He misunderstands how advertisers select platforms to spend on (I buy media for a living, I have strong professional opinions on his missteps with ad revenue and misunderstanding what is valuable on Twitter). He also underestimates the jack-assery of most people. He of all people should be familiar with John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.

I saw a tweet purporting to quote a manager at Twitter saying the half of staff they laid off were 'dead weight' but that they needed their knowledge.

My experience says managers like that are almost certainly dead weight and likely to be misrepresenting their employees' work. And that leads (fixed it for you) to more mistakes, not fewer.

I can only say that for me, Twitter is pretty near the bottom of a things that need to be fixed list.

IMO, The guy needs to stay busy or he will become as many super rich do i.e. progressing towards more, more things, more money, more pleasure, more power... not necessarily more better.

I think tesla, space X, boring company, are chooching away without too much of his input.

"He's a great manager, he's just stuck with all those bad employees" said no rational person ever.

Cybertruck is beyond Elon currently. That should not be received as dismissive.

He's ordered his stuff, he's waiting on the powers that be to deliver. Even after that, he won't be building them. He's awaiting the 1st where there will be the update ;) (I hope)

Until I have all my Cybertrucks, Robotaxis, smaller Wolverine version of truck for Europe/World, FSD, Boring tunnels in every city, and dozens of Starships regularly making round-trips to Mars each year, I would much prefer Elon stayed focused on those things.

As a Tesla stockholder I bought the stock with expectation it was a primary focus for Elon.

If Elon has slack time in between he should be resting up NOT stressing out over something that should be a low priority and did not need fixing right now.

Managers can suck, workers can suck, people can suck.

My experience in the working world has shown me how easily bloat can happen when money is flush. It always seems to be the same, you have a worker that does "task X", which is vital for operations but a bit repetitive/boring/hard work. After a while, they are a subject matter expert in X, but are sick of doing it. They lobby to hire someone to help them with it, so that they are freed of the mundane and can focus on more creative ways to grow/improve the operation. This creative new role may or may not have value, but now there are two employees where once there were one. One has the knowledge, but one is doing the work. Like cellular growth, the cycle repeats once these two new employees are comfortable/bored enough if no one is keeping it in check.

I'm honestly blown away by how many employees some of these social media companies have.

The best leaders are great delegators. They set the goals and vision, then hire the very best people to get it done and empower them to do so. Elon deserves so much credit for his companies, because he is a great leader in this respect. He sees trends, what can be done and makes it happen. On the flip side, he gets way too much credit for the actual product, at least from the general public. He doesn't design the cars. He doesn't build the rockets. He has great people managing the Cybertruck ramp, installing the equipment, keeping it on schedule. I'm sure he has a meeting or two a week with the team leaders at Tesla to make sure everything is going to plan. But that's it. Twitter doesn't affect it at all. I kind of think Twitter is like his fun project, he was on it all the time anyway.

Elon volunteered that he went from an already extremely overworked level of 80 hours a week to now 120 hours.

That is not "Twitter doesn't affect it at all"

Do you have some link to this admission?

What I saw was him saying he’s working 120 hours per week. That’s not the same as “too much on my plate”.

Regardless, Cybertruck production is likely not blocked by Musk.
