Friend with new Bronco: I woke up to a flat tire (0 PSI) after spending 4 hours getting it fixed I go to Walmart and get another flat tire.
I am waiting on a roadside right now.

Me: Buh? Four hours? Flat tires are so rare. Did you pick up some screws on the road?

Friend: Ford used lock-tight on the nut the secures the spare tire, it took an hour to get it off (and a pair of really large plyers)
1 hour drive to tire repair place, 1 hour to wait, and 1 hour return.

So yeah, I guess it was there for looks?

I have never seen lock tight applied to the hold down for the spare. I have seen and had spares that had gone flat. But then I have pickups with the spare under the bed with a crank down to lower the spare. I have flats on average about 1 every year or two as long as you don't count the Jeep which gets 4-5 but can usually just get aired back up.

And apparently the patch on the broken tire failed, leaving him without a tire twice in one day.

He used a “Really large pair of Plyers” To get the spare off?

Usually the nuts on the spare are the same as the ones on the wheels. On my Toyota it was a large wingnut for the under body style tire. Maybe that’s what it was, a wing nut he had to wrench off? That would suck.

Well, his spelling can be atrocious, to be honest. And I've only seen a spare held on with spare nuts once, usually it's been some sort of wingnut or clamp.
