Insane homeless dude attacks my fully self-driving Waymo taxi

Someone said I sounded stressed out in this video, but I assure you, I was laughing more than anything. And excited to get to report a car bug. I was very disappointed that the customer service person is only there for safety, and didn't care one bit about the car problem. I'm in tech, and I'm used to doing good bug reports.

It's a four minute video, first couple minutes are just normal driving on a couple of different rides. I just clipped the most interesting parts, like how it dealt with oncoming cars on small residential streets.

Next ride, I'm sitting up front!!

Why doesn't Tesla have FSD cars out like this?

Central PHX, Where I was raised! ha! Thuggish and ruggish.

These cars have a ridiculously huge array of sensors which Teslas don't have. And they run in a VERY VERY limited space that has been hypermapped in 3D down to centimeters of detail. These cars cannot function outside of their areas. Just North of downtown, and in part of Tempe.

And yeah, I hate going to the damn ghetto.

Interesting. Hypothetically, it looks like if a "coordinated action" was taken at interrupting multiple Waymos on the roads could cause gridlock. Didn't take much to confuse that car for a while.

Yeah, and as several of my friends pointed out, there's no escape from a mob, a person with a weapon, etc. You are trapped. I *assume* but don't fully know, that I couldn't jump in the driver's seat and take over.

I don't go into the Phoenix ghetto unarmed, so another question is who is responsible for shooting through windows? Should the AI just open them once the inside camera sees me ready to take a shot? LOL

If there was a really bad emergency, would you be able to exit vehicle? Will the car call emergency services?

That’s actually answered in the video. The car gives instructions, and you can get a person on a call any time. There’s also a direct 911 button. You can open the doors any time.

Driving a Jaguar through some sketchy areas of downtown. Hmmm, what could possibly go wrong? ;)

You could do that against human drivers.

One could even say... people have done that to protest abuse and inequality.

Human drivers, when sufficiently threatened, would drive out of the situation. This car presumably would not. If that guy smashed a window in my own car, I'd run his ass over to get away. If he smashed the Waymo window, most I could do is get out of the other side.

I had meant to post the map of the limited areas they run in, here it is.

Not necessarily. Just like with direct personal attacks, some people run while others freeze.

This is why I think Robotaxis needs to be like Cybertruck, windows of tough break-resistant glass and doors / passenger cabin of bullet-resistant stainless steel.
