It turns out that the "DeLorean Motor Company" of Houston is now expanding into San Antonio to build a new electric model:

So, which stainless EV gets to market first? lol

if this happens, hopefully management doesn't skim enough money out of operating funds to cripple the company, thereby repeating history.

One thing I would love for Tesla to do is sell battery packs and electronics to independent carmakers. There are a ton of very cool ideas which have cropped up lately, but these baby companies are going to struggle to get competetive priced offerings out there.

I know it won’t happen. Tesla is all about efficiency and this is counter to that… but it would be awesome to be able to buy a cool boutique car with Tesla official cells and integration from the start.

Tesla has done it before. They are about efficiency - but specialization is something they don't have time for. This would push it off to someone else.

I think like the app store and licensing Autopilot/FSD, it's something that will happen: Just, it's very low priority. Currently they can't make drivetrains as fast as they they can put them into cars and sell them. So every pack diverted this way is one they can't put into a car.

Yeah, I saw that teaser. Very cool. They even set up a separate company for the project and hired some C suite executives, including Joost de Vries for CEO of the new division (from Karma). Rumors are flying around about details, but I'll wait for communication from DMC.

It would certainly be sweet to have Tesla provide systems for unique projects like this.

I think it's a safe assumption that it will have stainless steel body panels. That's assuming it makes it to market, of course.

Unfortunately, I think it's also a safe assumption that it will be traditional uni-body construction (which just means the body will not be ultra-strong) and it won't be cold-rolled stainless steel (so it will not be very damage resistant. At least it won't need paint.

It's too bad it probably won't be surface hardened because that means it won't be any harder or more damage resistant than the kind of stainless steel we are all familiar with, the soft kind used to make kitchen appliances. Which is the same stuff the original DeLorean was made of.

that would be great if it would happen.....just think of the possibilities of the charging systems being made available also....maybe it would generate more money for Tesla........Tesla charge cost, other than SCE, is sllightly more than that us....It would maybe make for a standard charging generating more money to build more supercharger across the would....

I have put deposit on a Aptera and they are talking about charging using the Tesla electronics...This would be great for me.....with the price of gas going up and up, now at $5.299 my nearest Shell station, the $0.19 kWh charge has saved me a lot of money....just my thoughts

EDIT: oh yes, and the threat of things in Europe as they stand today, looks like gas will continue to spiral upwards....
